Records are there to be broken (update)

Wimbledon Championships

Wimbledon happened this year and with spectators who were more enthusiastically involved than any I've ever seen before. Seeds came and went but Karolina Pliskova and Barty made it to the final. Pliskova slipped early on which seemed to distract her and she never seemed to recover. That was rather disappointing given her fantastic play during the tournament.

Breaking the Grand Slam Ceiling

As for the men, Djokovic won his 3rd Grand Slam of the year and I sincerely hope he wins the US title. Why? Because it's time that someone won the Calendar Slam just as it's time someone won 25 Grand Slams. I can't help thinking it rather strange that Margaret Court has still not been overtaken by any player, male or female! And it's been a while since someone won the Calendar Slam. Not since Stefanie Graf in 1988! Graf still holds onto the Golden Slam because Djokovic didn't bring home the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo this year. And Graf also achieved the Super Slam which ideally means a Calendar Slam, and winning the end of year championships (YEC).

A Super Grand Slam is won by holding all 4 Grand Slams as a Career Grand Slam together with the YEC. Nice though all that is, it's still fun to see history made so we're not stuck back in 1988 and feel little has moved on. By now we are all desperate to see someone break a record and the Calendar Slam and the Super Slam could still be won by Djokovic this year. And Serena Williams could win her 24th GS.

The ATP tour has been dominated by 3 men for a few years, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. The advantage is that records are made. On the WTA, this has not been the case recently. Serena dominated the scene but since the birth of Olympia has been unlucky in her Grand Slam finals. A variety of players have won GS's on the women's tour in the past few years and the disadvantage is that records are neither made nor broken. Yes, it makes it more exciting because the winner could be one of several players but it also means that history isn't being made which is disappointing. A balance of the two is the ideal.

US Open

The US Open starts at the end of this month possibly without Federer. I have no idea who is going to win the women's title. I would love it to be Serena. However, Bencic won the Olympic Gold for Switzerland. I doubt anyone predicted that! Vondrousova won the silver for the Czech Republic. Huge congratulations πŸŽ–πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘❤πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰ to her and the doubles gold medal team: Krejcikova and Siniakova! πŸŽ–πŸŽ–πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘❤πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰

As for the men, I'm hoping for a Djokovic win at the US Open. We 'll see!
