Wimbledon 2022 Day 12
Krejcikova and Siniakova beat Ostapenko and Kichenok in style to reach the final against Mertens and Zhang Shuai. They played awesome tennis. The rest day obviously did them a lot of good. I think they both went for a trip to London which is always energizing.
The Legends kicked off with Schiavone and Pennetta against Molik and Dellacqua. That was a fascinating match. It looked as if Dellacqua and Molik were on course to win but the Italians came storming back.
(I think you can get playback on iPlayer for Wimbledon, I checked and found they include Invitational matches (available for a month) as opposed to BBC Sport Live Catch-Up. Now why didn't I think of that earlier?π€¦π€·Mind you that will only work if you know which court they were on.π€ )
Schiavone and Pennetta are such an exciting pair and their tennis is top class. Schiavone is a wonderful coach to Martic. Flavia Pennetta has three children, (5 year old Federico, 2 year old Farah, and a 7+ month year old baby Flaminia) when does she fit in practice and off-court fitness? Nonetheless, I have something in common with Penneta. We both have Monica Seles as our tennis idol! Her husband, Fabio, is still on the ATP tour, with a career high of 9 in 2019 but currently 63.
Bahrami was in action again today,ππππππ entertaining us all not only with his amazing tennis skills πΎπͺ but also his singing πΆπ΅πΆ too when he sang 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra while continuing to play! I hope that doesn't mean we'll no longer see him at Wimbledon. π’ He's still in his prime!
Let's consider this from the perspective of the binary, biological argument to see if we can explain why this may be so: Testosterone is keeping Bahrami going as well as all the advantages of his male puberty. This is why he can play longer, well into his 70's, unlike the women with their menopause, hot flushes and all that. After all, women can't cope with playing against transwomen pre-menopause, apparently, together with all those period issues they have, and women's lack of male puberty which enfeebles them. Well, I guess Navratilova must agree, that on her theory, it's only fair Bahrami plays invitational tennis much longer than her! After all women and men are very biologically different from each other (a very deterministic argument since this is something they can't ever change, they are stuck with whatever sex they are labelled at birth π₯) hence, they shouldn't expect equal opportunities. π Or equal pay π·π° which is why John McEnroe is paid more than Navratilova for commentating due to his biological male advantage that he's had from birth πΆ and because he's gone through male puberty π¦ and had all that testosterone coursing through his veins enabling him to have more strength πͺ and stamina than any woman for commentating π and running between commentary boxes and all around The All England Club π! π
For me, Hingis dominated the rest of the day since she not only played Invitational women's doubles with the amazing Clijsters but also substituted Bartoli who was partnering Zimonjic. (I hope Bartoli is OK! She did hobble in her first match and her ankle was strapped. But she has played first class tennis this week. Thank you, Bartoli!) Hingis won both matches back to back with no break, 4 sets on the trot. Awesome! What can you say about Hingis? There are no superlatives. I think the best way to describe her is that she has achieved the rarity of making the racquet an extension of her arm. Much like Bahrami. And the speed with which she played the matches was a sight to behold. There's no break, she just keeps going - fast! With very few errors. If there was one person I could chose to play doubles with it's Martina Hingis. Although she'll lose patience with my creative shots that just might not have the desired effect! Much as she was π€¦at some of Zimonjic's attempts to close out the match, but she did think it was funny. π I loved the way she just took over and put away the volleys. πΎπ What a legend she is! π
