Wimbledon 2022 Day 5
I've just finished watching Venus Williams and Jamie Murray win a thrilling three set match in the mixed doubles πΎπΎππππππππ against Rosolska and Venus (Michael). It was an exciting match that had me shouting and chanting with the crowd: 'Let's go Venus, let's go' complete with Mexican wave. Venus is hugely popular with the English crowd!! As is Jamie who the spectators cheered on to victory. Well done to both. I avoid talking about how old someone is because it's irrelevant but Venus at 42 has lost none of her talent, firepower and technique. She has a tremendous feel for the game and understands how to negotiate and structure every point. By now you've gathered that I am a huge admirer and supporter of Venus and have been ever since she came onto the tour. I think she's unique and a tennis genius! For me, the Williams sisters and Monica Seles are the greatest of all time. They brought something very special to tennis, dazzled us with their talent and made the sport electrifying. Women's tennis has gone from strength to strength ever since. Venus has also been at the forefront of equal pay in tennis.πππππ
OK! I'm gushing but there's no doubt that people love watching the 2 sisters playing competitively. As Tracey Austin said this Wimbledon, Venus and Serena are welcome to play anywhere, anytime at any tournament.
Today, for me, has been a day of watching doubles. I was delighted that Harriet Dart and Heather Watson won their doubles matchπΎπΎ against Kucova and Bektas. Well done, Heather for not letting Dart down and still giving it your all after winning your singles match against Juvan! Good luck in the 4th round! Just go for it against Niemeier on Sunday. We'll be cheering you on, raucously! And best of luck in your doubles with Dart tomorrow and mixed doubles with Skupski. You have a busy weekend ahead. Breathe deeply, don't overpress!
Other doubles: Krejcikova and Siniakova, a great doubles pairing, won their match against Kontaveit and Rogers. I love π these two ❤πΎπΎ
Ostapenko is also through to the fourth round singles (last 16) having beaten Begu. And was also successful in her mixed doubles with Farah against McLachlan and Chan. As always, Ostapenko was fun to watch.
I was pleased Mirza came through in her second round mixed doubles match with Pavic given she lost in her women's doubles first round playing with Hradecka against tough opponents in Frech and Haddad Maia. I enjoy watching Mirza so I am delighted I'll see more of her!
The same is true of Asia Mohammed (playing with Shibahara) who came through her second round women's doubles match. Such an athletic tennis player. I remember her playing doubles with Taylor Townsend and reaching the semis at the US Open 2020 together!πΎπΎ ππππππ❤❤
Taylor has now returned to the tour after giving birth to a beautiful baby boy, Adyn last year, and has since reached the doubles semi-finals at Roland Garros, a couple of months ago, with Madison Keys. What a fabulous achievement! πͺπΏπΎ❤ As part of her come back trail, which only started in April this year, Taylor has also played and won a tournament in Charleston on the ITF tour (W 100; a 100,000K which is the highest on the ITF). After playing 3 top ITF's and a first round singles match at RG, Taylor Townsend is 112 in the singles ranking. Wow! How awesome is that! However, I haven't seen her name at Wimbledon. Have I missed something?π€
It's going to be a busy weekend, no Sunday off! First time in history!ππππππΎ❤ I'll be back over the weekend. Weather looks boring but hopefully no rain ☔
